Plans, projects and funds for afforestation

In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to plans and projects for the afforestation of urban areas and the national territory. In fact, although starting from a good arboreal presence in Italy (data Green Italy -Symbola Foundation), the afforestation remains one of the priorities at the national level, also due to the commitment of Minister Costa, who allocated 30 million euros for 2020 and 2021 (Law December 12, 2019, n. 141).

The allocation also fits into the broader European context, among the objectives of the now famous Green Deal and the actions that could be implemented thanks to the Recovery Fund.

In the Government’s plans, even if today it is in crisis, the goal is to plant 50 million trees on the national territory, especially in cities, in the next 6 years. The aim is to improve air quality by absorbing large quantities of CO2. Many studies, further corroborated by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, state that the presence of “green” environments improves the mental and physical condition of human beings.

Venetian Cluster has also presented (LIFE project – VAIA) and will present projects (HORIZON) that investigate the correlation between mental and physical well-being and the presence of forest environments and plan and design afforestation activities in the italian territory.
