The UNESCO Creative Cities of Culture Network (UCCN) was established in 2004 to promote international cooperation among cities that recognize creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The network includes seven creative fields: Craft and Folk Art, Design, Cinema, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.

- Global Recognition: Cities gain international visibility as centers of excellence in their respective creative fields.
- Networking Opportunities: Collaborations with other cities, sharing of best practices, and development of partnerships.
Application Process:
- Eligibility: Cities must demonstrate a rich cultural heritage and a commitment to integrating creativity into urban development. This includes established cultural industries, educational programs, and events related to the chosen creative sector.
- Preparation: A dedicated management group must coordinate the application process. This group collects documentation and prepares the application.
- Submission: Applications must be submitted to the UNESCO National Commission of the country for initial review. If approved, the application is evaluated by a panel of experts who advise the UNESCO Director-General for the final decision.
Responsibilities of Member Cities:
- International Cooperation: Participate in the exchange of knowledge and information with other network members.
- Reporting: Submit a report every two years on the progress made in implementing policies and activities related to the chosen creative sector.
- Sustainable Development: The network supports cities in using creativity for sustainable urban development, in line with the 2030 Agenda, particularly Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
