ECOFOODCYCLE

  • Full title: ECOFOODCYCLE – Reducing Food Waste and its Environmental Footprint through Sustainable Food Systems
  • Start date: 01/04/2024
  • Project end date: 30/09/2026
  • Duration: 30 months
  • Total project budget: EUR 2.277.999,99
  • Program: INTERREG Italy – Croatia

THE CONTEXT.

The ECOFOODCYCLE project focuses on tackling food waste as a significant contributor to environmental pollution and climate change. It emphasizes the systemic need for cross-border cooperation to implement effective prevention and reduction strategies. Food waste depletes natural resources and generates methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.

THE PROJECT.

ECOFOODCYCLE project will address the food waste issues by promoting sustainable practices and solutions for improving food waste prevention and management in selected Programme areas, which will reduce environmental impacts (especially in GHG emissions). Project results will raise knowledge and implementation capacity regarding food waste management of all target groups along the whole food supply chain (including private persons, local authorities, gastronomes, retailers, teachers, waste management authorities, etc.). A real change in the prevention and reduction of food waste along the Adriatic basin will be reached by the following:
Implementation of different pilot actions and various awareness-raising events;
Establishment of an appropriate cross-border Adriatic stakeholder network;
Implementation of a web-based support tool tailored to different users to provide best practice guidelines and training.
