KIEV- MEETING FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THE BOOK:

“Restoration of stone materials, wall paintings and mosaics materials -Introduction to technical and methodological synthesis”

Venetian Heritage Cluster, the Director of the UNESCO sites of Santa Sophia and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture met in Kiev for the publication of the book: ” Restoration of stone materials, wall paintings and mosaics materials – Introduction technical and methodological synthesis ” (IBSN 978-966-136-350-1).

This document represents the first result of the exchange of Italian and Ukrainian experiences in the field of Restoration and Conservation. This is the study of innovative methods for the conservation of the Cultural Heritage of both countries. It’s the results from a common growth path to improve restoration and conservation in Ukraine and Italy.

The curator Sergio Calò, restorer and specialist technician of the Venetian Heritage Cluster, is the author of a part of the book. The expert gives a technical and clear methodology for the restoration of stone materials, wall paintings and mosaics materials by explaining through analytical and diagnostic techniques (dating, form and size of the study object, materials and transformation over time, localization), and conservation techniques to be taken (cleaning, reinforcing materials, dehumidification, reconstruction and anchoring etc.).

“…restoration deals with “objects” (pieces) and not merely the materials of which they are made. And objects are artificial entities produced by mankind, that is from thought, genius, and knowledge: they are never simply the outcome of a technical process”.
